ENVIRONMENT – CLIMATE
Urban areas
are often at the forefront of environmental and climate issues, owing to their
concentrated populations, industrial operations, production of greenhouse gases
and consumption patterns. While they play a major role in the triple planetary
crisis (climate change, loss of biodiversity and pollution), cities can also
spearhead mitigation strategies through the implementation of sustainable city
designs, judicious use of resources and eco-friendly technologies. That is why
the GCH works to ensure that local and regional governments contribute to environmental
and climate debates at the international level, in particular through the UN
Environmental Assembly and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
