The GCH goes to the 6th UN Environment Assembly

The 6th UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) will take place from February 26 to March 1 at the UN environment programme (UNEP) Headquarters in Nairobi. Over the years, UNEA has gained importance as a global UN Assembly addressing important environmental issues, including plastic pollution on which the GCH has engaged lately.

Taking part in UNEA-6, the GCH will contribute to strengthen the position of local and regional governments (LRGs) in multilateralism through the Cities and Region Summit (see programme and registration link here) and its outcome, which will be formally introduced before the UNEA-6 plenary on February 26, marking a valuable step towards empowering LRGs in environmental discussions and processes.

In addition, the GCH will participate in negotiations on relevant resolutions during UNEA-6. Further details will be available on the GCH website in the next days.

The GCH remains committed to promoting the voices of LRGs which advance sustainable environmental practices. With UNEA-6 just around the corner, GCH sees a great opportunity to involve LRGs in the international discussions addressing critical environmental challenges.
