Description

The growing population density makes cities particularly vulnerable to the consequences of poor sanitation. Failing water & sanitation services create the constant threat of a disease outbreak in vulnerable neighborhoods. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of local authorities, water shortages are increasingly recurrent incidents.

The UN 2023 Water Conference will take place 22-24 March 2023. It is the midterm review of implementation of the UN Decade for Action on Water and Sanitation (2018-2028). Water is vitally important for sustainable development from social, health and economic perspectives. As localization of the SDGs becomes crucial, cities must be equipped to follow the Conference.

The aim of this briefing is to give participants the key elements to understand the outcome of the Conference. Geneva Cities Hub, UN-Habitat, UN-Water, Geneva Environment Network and Member States representatives will present the aspects of the Conference that are most important for local leaders.

Participants are invited to ask questions and make recommendations to the panelists.
