Description

For the past 6 years, the GCH has tirelessly advocated for local and regional governments in international multilateral discussions, connecting global challenges and local solutions.

Founded in 2020 by the City of Geneva, the Canton of Geneva, and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, the GCH has established itself as a key player in urban diplomacy in Geneva and beyond. New members have joined the adventure since: Nairobi, Zurich, Basel-City, the Province of Barcelona and Rio de Janeiro.

The GCH worked for an international system in which LRGs are recognized as full-fledged actors in multilateral governance and actively strengthen its overall effectiveness to respond more effectively to global challenges. By strengthening LRG’s influence in Geneva-based multilateral processes, the GCH contributes to a more inclusive and effective multilateralism.

Today, the GCH is a key partner of the UN Forum of Mayors, providing mayors with a unique international platform to discuss sustainable urban development and submit concrete recommendations to States. It has also played a vital role in integrating urban perspectives into various international processes, including those related to pandemic prevention, plastic pollution reduction or digitalization.

To mark this anniversary, we are thrilled to showcase voices from our members – cities and regions committed to supporting a more inclusive multilateralism for resilient, and sustainable cities that leave no one behind.

Together, we can make multilateralism more effective!
