Human Rights Council recognizes the role of LRGs

The Global Cities Hub commends the adoption of several Human Rights Council (HRC) resolutions on advancing multilateral work with local and regional governments (LRGs). The GCH provided inputs during the negotiation process. These resolutions reflect a growing openness to recognize the importance and relevance of LRGs.

UNEA-7 Cities and Regions Summit: a stronger multilevel environmental governance

UNEP’s recently published UNEA-7 Cities and Regions Summit Report highlights key messages from mayors and governors as well as State representatives, heads of IOs and NGOs, including the GCH. Speakers underlined that empowering cities and regions is essential to advancing sustainable solutions and turning global commitments into reality.

Elevate the local narrative to the global discussions

GCH’s “Davos 2026 Debrief” shared the most relevant outcomes of World Economic Forum Annual Meeting and explained how they translate into local policy and action. WEF brought together diverse stakeholders under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue”. It focused on rebuilding trust, cooperation and dialogue – without hiding sometimes antagonistic views.

GCH contributes to the “Spirit of Dialogue” in Davos

As the 56th WEF Annual Meeting opens, its theme “A Spirit of Dialogue” resonates with the GCH’s mission: connecting local and regional governments to the UN and other IOs. We should tap into the power of local and regional governments to contribute solutions to global challenges, through public-private and multilevel cooperation.

Mayor Anne Hidalgo Visits the Global Cities Hub in Geneva

On 12 May 2025, the Global Cities Hub (GCH) had the honour of welcoming Mayor Anne Hidalgo to Geneva. This meeting provided a valuable opportunity to present the GCH’s mission to better connect local and regional governments (LRGs) to United Nations, as well as other international organizations based in Geneva and beyond.
