Description

The Global Cities Hub as part of the Local and Subnational Government Coalition to End Plastic Pollution participated to the 3rd Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on the Plastic Pollution treaty (INC-5.3). We wish first to warmly congratulate the newly elected Chair, H.E. Ambassador Julio Cordano, of Chile and filled vacancies in the Bureau.

We wish him and all the members of the Bureau every success in steering this process forward.

We strongly believe that the treaty-making process must now move decisively ahead. The real challenge before us is not procedural—it is the urgent and tangible reality of plastic pollution, which local and subnational governments are confronting every day. As they are indeed on the frontline of this crisis, dealing directly with impacts on public health, waste systems, waterways, and ecosystems, often with limited resources but clear responsibilities to residents. All eyes are on this process.

Our Coalition stands ready to work with all delegations, at all levels of government, to help the delivery of an ambitious and effective treaty to end plastic pollution.
