Description
The Geneva Cities Hub will address the First Meeting of the Mayors Council. It is an opportunity to showcase the work led by UN-Habitat and other stakehodlers, including the Geneva Cities Hub, to fight homelesseness and create a Mayors-led coalition on this issue, and share thoughts with the city representatives invited to this session. From concrete experiences to recommendations to the international community, the outcome of the meeting will contribute to the Secretary General report to the ECOSOC next September and to the General Assembly.
The meeting will discuss the role of Mayors in reducing homelessness and the importance of highlighting local progress on homelessness in national and international discourse. Founding members of the Council will directly inform future priorities and policies recommended by the Council.
The First Meeting of the Mayors Council aims to:
- Introduce Mayors on the Council including their priorities, strategies, and local context
- Inform Council members of international policy and resolutions on homelessness from the United Nations
- Discuss the role of Mayors in reducing homelessness and the importance of partnerships and collaboration across sectors to address the intersectional nature of homelessness
