Description
GCH at United Nations Pavilion at Smart City Expo
| At SCEWC 2026 the Global Cities Hub will carry out its mandate of connecting local and regional governments with international organisations and processes. We’ll be particularly present at the United Nations Pavilion, jointly host, for the first time, by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).
While every city, region, and country seeks to develop ‘smart cities’ and deploy AI according to its own priorities and legal frameworks, international collaboration can accelerate progress through shared standards, open technologies, and trusted governance models. The discussion on urban digital transformation is timely and necessary. The United Nations Pavilion will provide a dedicated platform for United Nations entities and partners to showcase collaborative initiatives and engage in high-level discussions on the transformative role of digital technologies, artificial intelligence and innovation in advancing sustainable urban development and supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Global Cities Hub invites representatives of local and regional governments (exhibitors, speakers, and participants) to an “LRGs Networking Cocktail” among peers at the United Nations Pavilion on 4 November from 18:30-19.30 hours. We would like to invite all interested LRGs to join for a focused discussion on sovereign data and AI opportunities for cities and regions.
Senior Policy Advisor Andras Szorenyi will moderate the session of “UN in Action” on 5 November 2026, 9:30-10:30. This session will bring together representatives from several of the UN entities to showcase their work and expertise on smart cities and people-centred urban digital transformation. Join us to learn more about UNDP, UNEP, UNDRR and UN-Women!
The 3 days United Nations Pavilion programme aims to give the audience a better understanding of the work being carried out across the UN system in this area.
