Cities around the world are navigating an intense shift toward integrating advanced virtual representations – often described as digital twins or immersive urban environments – to enhance planning, management and citizen engagement. This immersive digital environment is transforming how people live, learn, govern, and interact. The transition to a “Citiverse” – as most commonly referred to – is a generational project. Success is measured by improving the lives of the people and building a more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive urban future. The new phase of digital transformation cities are entering is driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI), advanced connectivity, and immersive digital environments. While early smart city initiatives focused on sensors and data dashboards, the newly emerging paradigm of citiverse represents a city-scale digital ecosystem that integrates physical infrastructure, digital twins, immersive interfaces, and AI-driven decision-making systems.

The GCH invites two distinguished speakers to a fireside chat on these questions on the occasion of the launch of its policy paper for cities on “The Transformative Power of AI in the Citiverse”:
- Sami Kanaan, former mayor of Geneva
- Ivica Puljak, former mayor of Split
They will shed light on the technological, social, economic and governance aspects of these developments from a practitioner’s perspective based on their professional experiences and personal visions.
