100 Days to the UN Water Conference
| The 2026 United Nations Water Conference, co-hosted by the United Arab Emirates and Senegal, presents a critical opportunity to renew political commitment, strengthen international cooperation, mobilize investment, and shape global water governance beyond 2030.
“100 days before the UN Water Conference” the Global Cities Hub and UN-Habitat co-organize a webinar to launch and discuss its policy paper, ‘International Cooperation for a Water-Secure Future’. The paper explores the evolving global water agenda, highlights the indispensable role of LRGs in water governance, and proposes policy recommendations for States and local authorities. The webinar offers an opportunity to learn about the preparations, exchange perspectives, and identify avenues to ensure that global water decisions are informed by local realities. International cooperation has never been more important. Climate change, urbanization, pollution, and growing water demand are placing unprecedented pressure on water resources, while progress towards SDG 6 – Access to Clean Water and Sanitation remains off track. LRGs are on the frontline of delivering water and sanitation services, building resilient infrastructure, and protecting communities from water-related risks. Yet their voices remain insufficiently represented in global decision-making. |
