GCH y WeGO renuevan su colaboración para impulsar el multilateralismo inclusivo

The Global Cities Hub (GCH) and the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO) renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 24 June 2026, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation and empowering local and regional governments (LRGs) in addressing global challenges through digital innovation and inclusive global governance.

“Building on four years of close collaboration, the renewed agreement reflects the strong convergence of our missions and our shared commitment to strengthening the role of LRGs in addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing humanity.” – said GCH Co-Director Anh Thu Duong.

As digitalization, AI, and local digital governance increasingly influence both everyday life and international policymaking, GCH and WeGO recognize the importance of deepening cooperation in these rapidly evolving fields. Through this renewed partnership, the two organizations will continue to reinforce and complement each other’s efforts to support cities worldwide:

  • Enhance cities’ digital capabilities and support the development of innovative digital solutions that make urban areas more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive for the majority of the world’s population;
  • Promote the participation of cities in global policy discussions and advance more inclusive and effective multilateralism.

The cooperation has already changed how cities step up at the international level. One of the most successful examples of this collaboration has been the Mayors’ High-Level Dialogue at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). Through this joint initiative, GCH and WeGO have helped increase the visibility of smart and sustainable cities within a key global forum convened by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva.

“Our goal is to scale impact further through exchanges of experiences, sharing information, and strengthening LRG’s international engagement. We can build global sustainability city by city.” – concluded WeGO Secretary General Jeong-kee Kim.

The renewed MoU marks an important milestone in the partnership and underscores both organizations’ commitment to ensuring that cities have a stronger voice in shaping the digital future and contributing to global governance.
