El acto subray\u00f3 la importancia de aprovechar la experiencia en soluciones basadas en la naturaleza, plantaci\u00f3n de \u00e1rboles y estrategias para combatir la contaminaci\u00f3n por pl\u00e1sticos, herramientas esenciales para los alcaldes comprometidos con el fomento de entornos urbanos sostenibles.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Con la r\u00e1pida urbanizaci\u00f3n de las ciudades, que suman aproximadamente 200.000 habitantes al d\u00eda, las zonas urbanas est\u00e1n ahora en primera l\u00ednea de esta triple crisis planetaria. Las proyecciones indican que en 2050 m\u00e1s de dos tercios de la poblaci\u00f3n mundial residir\u00e1 en ciudades, lo que subraya la necesidad cr\u00edtica de que los centros urbanos sean parte integrante de la soluci\u00f3n de estos acuciantes problemas. Refiri\u00e9ndose a esta realidad, el Sr. Stewart Maginnis, Director General Adjunto de la UICN, destac\u00f3 el potencial de las soluciones basadas en la naturaleza para mejorar la resiliencia y la salud de las ciudades en un mundo en r\u00e1pida urbanizaci\u00f3n.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Se anim\u00f3 a los alcaldes y dirigentes locales a participar activamente en iniciativas como la de los Gobiernos Locales y Subnacionales <a href=\"https:\/\/circulars.iclei.org\/our-work\/local-and-subnational-governments-coalition-to-end-plastic-pollution\/\">Coalici\u00f3n para acabar con la contaminaci\u00f3n por pl\u00e1sticos<\/a>. Al incorporar los espacios verdes a la planificaci\u00f3n urbana, las ciudades pueden enriquecer sus paisajes naturales al tiempo que abordan eficazmente la contaminaci\u00f3n y la p\u00e9rdida de biodiversidad. El Jefe de la Unidad de Ciudades del PNUMA demostr\u00f3 c\u00f3mo el PNUMA apoya el desarrollo de las Contribuciones Determinadas a Nivel Nacional (NDC), haciendo hincapi\u00e9 en el papel crucial de las ciudades y las partes interesadas locales en el impulso de soluciones clim\u00e1ticas globales.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Escuchar a los alcaldes compartir sus experiencias fue especialmente esclarecedor: los alcaldes saben exactamente cu\u00e1ntos \u00e1rboles han plantado y cu\u00e1ntos \u00e1rboles y soluciones clim\u00e1ticas m\u00e1s necesitan sus ciudades. Se enfrentan directamente a los problemas relacionados con el agua y el saneamiento junto a los residentes, lo que les da una perspectiva \u00fanica de la vida cotidiana. Una vez m\u00e1s, los alcaldes hicieron gala de su experiencia pr\u00e1ctica.
