About World Environment Day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\u00a01972, the UN General Assembly designated June 5th as the World Environment Day<\/a>. Since then, it became not only a celebration, but a platform to raise awareness on the problems we are facing in our communities such as air pollution, plastic pollution, illegal wildlife trade, sustainable consumption, sea-level increase, food security, among others. This year, the focus of the World Environment Day\u00a0is plastics, as we are now heading towards a global treaty to end plastic pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The power of cities against plastic pollution<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GCH has been at the forefront of including the voices of Local and Regional Governments in the Plastic Treaty Negotiations through the Local and Subnational Governments Coalition (LSNG)<\/a>.  We believe that Cities are the first line of defense against plastic pollution, and that the work done to fight against it must be shared and cherished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s why, we would like to invite the Local and Regional Governments to join us in celebrating the World Environment Day by answering a simple question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How are you fighting against plastic pollution?<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We would like to hear your answer through a post or video using the hashtag #CitiesAgainstPlastics and using the following media toolkit available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, be sure to tag us in Linkedin<\/a>, Instagram<\/a>, X (formerly Twitter)<\/a>, and Bluesky<\/a>.
