Year after year, these happen to be cities.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next GII will be&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wipo.int\/web\/global-innovation-index\/w\/news\/2024\/save-the-date-gii-2024\">launched<\/a>&nbsp;on 26 September but a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wipo.int\/pressroom\/en\/articles\/2024\/article_0012.html\">preview<\/a>&nbsp;indicates that urban hubs in Asia (Tokyo-Yokohama, Shenzhen\u2013Hong Kong\u2013Guangzhou) and the US (San Jose\u2013San Francisco) dominate the top ten. Hubs in several middle-income countries, including Cairo, Chennai and Istanbul, are growing swiftly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Urban hubs are responsible for many solutions to global challenges. Their creative influence reinforces the argument that the UN and other multilateral processes should welcome the expertise and experience that cities can bring to global policy making.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cScience and technology clusters serve as the foundation of robust national innovation ecosystems. It is encouraging to see these clusters thriving not just in the mature hubs of industrialized nations, but also in the emerging innovation hotspots of selected developing economies.
