On the occasion of World Children\u2019s Day and honoring the Centenary of the Geneva Declaration on the Rights of the Child<\/a>, GCH has decided to highlight the work of the United Nations Children’s Fund<\/a> (UNICEF) and include it in our mapping. The GCH mapping presents work on urban issues that international actors are doing in Geneva. It aims to showcase that work, forge connections between those actors, and build a community of urban experts in Geneva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNICEF works to save children\u2019s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. UNICEF has several programs and initiatives related to subnational governments or local and regional governments. It engages in various urban activities to promote child rights and well-being in urban areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNICEF works to ensure that urban communities have access to clean drinking water and proper sanitation facilities. It supports initiatives to provide quality education and early childhood development services for children living in urban areas. Its activities aim to improve healthcare services and nutrition programs for urban children, including immunizations, maternal health, and access to nutritious food. It helps the protection of children and adolescents from violence and exploitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNICEF works with local governments and communities to find lasting solutions for governance challenges. It helps policymakers meet children\u2019s needs by generating geographically disaggregated data, ensuring local government budgets are equitable, empowering children to participate in decision-making and evaluation, as well as enhancing service delivery and coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
