{"id":14739,"date":"2022-02-07T15:36:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-07T14:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.genevacitieshub.org\/?p=14739"},"modified":"2022-02-23T17:20:10","modified_gmt":"2022-02-23T16:20:10","slug":"informal-urban-briefing-co-convened-by-the-geneva-cities-hub-and-un-habitat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globalcitieshub.org\/en\/informal-urban-briefing-co-convened-by-the-geneva-cities-hub-and-un-habitat\/","title":{"rendered":"Informal urban briefing co-convened by the Geneva Cities Hub and UN-Habitat"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Fulfilling its role as the urban platform in Geneva, the Geneva Cities Hub (GCH) co-convened an informal urban briefing with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.genevacitieshub.org\/en\/un-habitat\/\">UN-Habitat<\/a> on 7 February 2022 targeting <a href=\"https:\/\/geneve-int.ch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Geneva-based international organizations<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.genevacitieshub.org\/en\/city-networks\/\">international city networks<\/a>. The objective was to raise awareness, mobilize and engage those stakeholders in view of important upcoming urban meetings in the first half of 2022. To do so, GCH invited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.genevacitieshub.org\/en\/un-economic-commission-for-europe\/\">UNECE <\/a>to provide more information about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.genevacitieshub.org\/en\/forum-of-mayors\/\">Forum of Mayors <\/a>(4-5 April, Geneva), and UN-Habitat briefed about the <a href=\"https:\/\/wuf.unhabitat.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Urban Forum<\/a> (26-30 June, Katowice). The Office of the President of the UN General Assembly also took part in the briefing to inform about the <strong>High Level Meeting on the New Urban Agenda<\/strong> (as per <a href=\"https:\/\/undocs.org\/en\/A\/RES\/75\/224\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GA resolution 75\/224<\/a>) (28 April, New York) that will look at urbanization as a cross-cutting issue and foster urban policies as means to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The informal briefing also provided an opportunity to update the Geneva urban community about the work of the <strong>UN Taskforce on the future of cities,<\/strong> which met on 26 January to discuss the draft terms of reference of the Advisory Group on Local and Regional Governments, put forward by the UN Secretary General in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/un75\/common-agenda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Common Agenda<\/a> (\u00a7119).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>2022 is an important year from the urban point of view.
