Regions4 catalyses regional government leadership, mobilizes resources, advocates for increased recognition, and channels regions\u2019 voices in the main United Nations fora on biodiversity, climate change, and sustainable development. Established during the UN World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002, Regions4 has built a global community of more than two hundred regional governments from Africa, America, Asia, and Europe.<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>

PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVES<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

\u00a0<\/p>

Advocacy.<\/strong> Regions4 is officially recognized by several entities of the United Nations (UN) system, including UNFCCC, CBD, UN DESA, UNEP, and UNDP. Because we have accreditation at major global events on climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable development, our members are able to participate in, network at, and follow up global negotiations.\u00a0<\/p>

Capacity building and knowledge exchange.<\/strong> Thanks to our wide and diverse network and our partnership agreements with the UN, EU, and other intergovernmental entities, as well as academic and expert organizations, Regions4 members benefit from learning opportunities through our projects, technical exchanges and peer learning training, and can obtain access to specialized information, including tools, resources and major publications.\u00a0<\/p>

Cooperation.<\/strong> Regions4 matches the needs and competencies of its members and key stakeholders to create cooperation opportunities. The Visiting Experts Programme promotes bilateral cooperation, capacity building, and knowledge transfer.<\/p>
