Strengthening investors’ confidence in urban climate finance

The SDSN Global Commission for Urban SDG Finance and the Penn Institute for Urban Research have recently published their report “The Green Cities Guarantee Fund: unlocking access to urban climate finance”. The Commission also presented the proposed Green Cities Guarantee Fund (GCGF) at U20 in Rio de Janeiro. Global Cities Hub co-director Kemileva is an SDSN commissioner and GCH considers climate financing as a key issue for LRGs.

GCH highlights cities’ role at ‘Toxics, zero waste and human rights’ event

During the 57th session of the Human Rights Council, at the event titled “Toxics, Zero Waste, Women, and Human Rights,” the Global Cities Hub emphasized the crucial role of local and regional governments in addressing waste management and inclusiveness policies. The Hub advocated for greater cooperation among UN agencies, such as OHCHR and UNEP, to merge human rights mechanisms with environmental expertise. GCH contributes to UNEA-6 resolutions and Cities and Regions Summit

UNEA-6 focuses on how multilateralism can help tackle the triple planetary crisis of climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste. The Assembly is an important opportunity for all levels of governments, including LRGs, and civil society to shape the global environmental policy.
